COACHING

Nathan knew early on that he enjoyed coaching, teaching and mentoring. He began umpiring for his local little league when he was fifteen and eventually pursued his passion for coaching basketball by taking positions as a volunteer coach at Carson Valley Middle School, working up to the Freshman level at Douglas High School before taking his first Varsity Head Coaching position in the Girl’s program at George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove (article). Nathan was coaxed back into coaching while teaching at Carson High School and held assistant and head coaching positions with the Girl’s Program there before finally stepping down in 2015. He continued to feed his passion by volunteering with the local recreation league, coaching high school club basketball, running camps with the MEFIYI Foundation, and providing individual skill workouts for local youth. Most recently, Nathan returned to Carson High as the interim coach for the 2023-24 season, resulting in the honor of Northern Nevada Coach of the Year for the second time. (article)
